1986 Season[Previous Season] | [Next Season] Averages and results available. The season had started poorly, with bad weather, and the absence of Garscadden dampened spirits further. However, the team pulled together well later and, helped by new members - especially Graham Milligan and Nigel Pyne - we finished the season with some very good matches and excellent results. The captain offered special thanks to Roger Downie for organising alternative pitches. Richard Cogdell Strathclyde leagueDespite winning 3 of 8 matches, we finished bottom of division II, separated by percentage points only from a few other clubs. Kilmacolm won division II and Clydesdale division I. West of Scotland have joined the league, continuing the recent tendency for Western Union and County third teams to be in the Strathclyde League. (P: 7 W: 2 (+ 1 cancellation in our favour) L: 5). Glasgow Evening LeagueWe remain in division II after finishing half way up the table. Although Britoil won the league they will remain in division II because of staff redundancies have decimated their playing strength. Rule change: if a side is not ready to play by 6.45, that side automatically loses the toss. (P: 8 W: 3 L: 5). ConclusionA large number - 38 - of staff, friends and relations turned out for the club over the season. As usual, our problem was regular availability - our best eleven is very good, but we can never get that eleven on the field. Fewer than 10 people managed 10 or more games, a situation, unfortunately, that is unlikely to improve. Lionel Glassey |
