Daddy, what did YOU do for the GUS ? - click to enlargeAverages, captain's retort and results available.

The Glasgow University Staff have gone in the past 5 years from being: "a bit of a joke side" to winning 4 league titles.

This summer after winning Divisions 2 and 3 of the Strathclyde League in successive years, we were pipped for the Division 1 title by West of Scotland by 2%.

Our secret lies in the fact that opponents tend to underestimate us when they see the number of bald heads in the side (average age 36) and usually have 3 wickets down before realising that even geriatrics can still play a bit.

What the Glasgow Guardian said...

AROUND THE WICKETS

Unusually GLASGOW UNIVERSITY STAFF seem to be about to start a new season with no changes in line-up. So the bowling burden will be on the shoulders of Gus McLean (left arm quick) and Neil Rollings (left arm slow).

Run getting could fall again to Graeme Milligan, batsman of 1991 with 600 runs at an average of 25.66, and Hugh Bell who hit almost 550 runs and also took twenty five wickets to capture the all-rounders' trophy.

As a new venture the Staff have entered the Small Clubs Cup, starting with an away tie to Dunlop. Their principle league interest will be in the Strathclyde League where they make their debut in division one under the captaincy of Ian Holland.
