2001 Season[Previous Season] | [Next Season]Averages, results, photos, captain's report and AGM minutes available. A big fox has taken to turning up at our home matches. It sits at the boundary watching the game, which led to the suggestion we change our name to Glasgow University Foxes. Glasgow University Trusses more like, if the average age of the team gets any higher. However, in our first 3 Western Union matches, we scored a total of 568 runs for the loss of only three wickets. The club partnership record of 200, was set one Saturday and lasted all of 7 days. Bowlers were finding injuries by the barrowload. So we were promotion candidates for most of the summer, but we can always be relied upon to screw up in some arcane way. No-one thought reading the rule-book worthy of their time, so one wet afternoon, we stayed on past the 80 over mark, getting a winning draw, which reduced our percentage below the team in 3rd place. On the positive side, we won Division 2 of the Strathclyde League, though all the other sides said; "Hard luck". Also, Big Hugh at last grasped that the point of sledging: is to direct it at the opposition, not your team-mates. Finally, my favourite moment was running a guy out on 99, off the last ball of a match we'd won comfortably. View from Holland |
